We fell in love with these chocolate chip cookie blizzards the first time we tried them! Ice cream is awesome, but ice cream full of delicious add-ons is to die for! Ice cream sandwiches are an obvious and tempting way to spice up a good homemade cookie, but a homemade blizzard full of your favorite sweets and treats is like an ice cream sandwich with fantastic bonuses! Additionally, blizzards offer endless variety and accommodate diverse tastes.
Blizzards are the perfect dessert for when friends and family are over! Why? Everyone loves them! Also, once you have the steps down and do a few minutes of prep ahead of time, it takes about two minutes to make them!
This recipe goes over the basics of making a Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Blizzard, but you can experiment and create endless flavor combinations and variations by following this recipe. Options include trying different types of ice cream and adding different add-ons such as nuts, candy, fruit, etc. The ice cream change is easy just use a different type of ice cream. The add-on changes may require some prep work. Simply add any add-on prep work to step one of this recipe - for example in one of the pictured blizzards I added our Bounteous Brownie and extra walnuts; I simply chopped the Brownie into 1/2-inch cubes like the cookie, I didn't bother crunching the nuts as I figured the beater bar would do that; it turned out great! Another flavor combination I tried was butter pecan ice cream with Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie and extra walnuts. It was a lot less sweet than the other blizzards with an amazing nutty flavor! All this to say that you can certainly change this recipe to change things up or to cater to your specific tastes. Be creative! We'd love to hear about your creations in the comments!
Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Blizzards
1: What you'll need
You'll need some freezer space, a stand mixer, a large knife, and a cutting board as well as:
3 medium scoops of vanilla ice cream (about half a cup each)
Any extra add-ons you'd like!
2: How it's done
TIP: Steps 1 and 2 may be done up to a day or two in advance so you are ready to pop everything out of the freezer and whip up your blizzards in no time!
This recipe serves two.
Cut the Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie into 1/2-inch cubes. Place the cubes in a sealed bag and put into the freezer at least one hour before you make your blizzards.
Put your mixing bowl, beater bar, and serving glasses or bowls into the freezer at least 10 minutes before you plan to make your blizzards.
When you are ready to serve your blizzards take the mixing bowl, beater bar, serving dishes, cookie cubes, and ice cream out of the freezer. Insert the bowl and bar into your stand mixer and add 3 scoops (roughly 1/2-cup each) of ice cream into the bowl.
Beat the ice cream at medium speed until it is thick and creamy- about the texture of a thick, soft serve.
Add the cubed Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie and any other toppings you'd like to add. Beat until well mixed in.
Serve immediately in the cooled dishes. You may sprinkle more of your add-ons on top for presentation!
